Top Ten Tuesday: All About the Villains.

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature / weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This weeks theme is All about the Villains.

This one really got me thinking – some of the best villains around are found in children’s literature. So, I started to think about the villains I remembered from when I was a child and there were so many. I also noticed a bit of a trend about these villains, which surprised me a lot.

It had never really occurred to me that so many of the villains in the stories that I read as a child were women. There are lots of great male villains too, but I thought it would be fun to focus on the women who really scared me, and in some instances gave me nightmares, when I was a child.

  1. Villains in kids’ books are somehow much more terrifying than usual… maybe because we’re seeing them through the eyes of children as well? And I didn’t manage to include Trunchbull or Miss Minchin on my list, but Trunchbull was especially vile.
